If you know anything about showing steer, you may know they have a show stick that had an end similar to the one shown on this object called the Bullhook. What you also know is that the sticks are used on the hock, or ankel of the cow. It's just used to send a little tickle up his leg [when used properly and in the right manner], and to make him stand right during a show. What you may not know is that this object is used to inflict pain upon animals. It may not seem like it could hurt an animal as large and strong as an Elephant, but it can. Many times when the animal does something wrong behind the scences, they are brutally beaten and hit with the sharp, pointed ends of the stick, which can do a great deal of damage. Can you imagine someone taking a stick with a rather pointed end on it and slamming it down into your skin repeatedly when you didn't spell a word right? It's completely unfair to the animals. Circus people may think that their spectators are completely dumb, but there are other ways to train an animal! Think of how you taught your dog to sit. You said the word, gave him some guidence, and when he did something right you rewarded him with treats and called his name sweetly and whatnot. If we can put this to a larger scale, we can keep animals from having to suffer! Stop the abuse. Click here to see a petition up for stopping the use of Bullhooks.
